Bavarian giants Bayern Munich prepared for the start of the Bundesliga in devastating fashion as a side packed with World Cup winners romped to a 23-0 victory over amateur side FC Rottach-Egern. 

The league champions were 11-0 up at half-time thanks to four goals from Corentin Tolisso, plus a hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski, Renato Sanches’ brace and strikes from Leon Dajaku and Serge Gnabry.

Despite making 10 changes at half-time there was no let-up as Thomas Muller, Otschi Wreidt and Leon Goretzka all ran in hat-tricks with Sarpreet Singh, Alexander Nollenburger and a Lar Dietrich own-goal completing the scoring.

In total the 29-time Bundesliga champions fielded five World Cup winners with Manuel Neuer and Tolisso playing the first half while Benjamin Pavard, Muller and debutant Lucas Hernandez featuring in the second.

The match was played out in front of 2,500 supporters – huge for Rottach-Egern, which has a population of 5,799.

However, it is slightly less than the 75,000 capacity of Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena home.

It took ex-Swansea man Sanches just seven minutes to open the scoring, with Dajaku on target in the eighth minute and Lewandowski in the ninth, before the Polish striker doubled his personal tally five minutes later.

Not to be outdone, Sanches fired home his second before a whole minutes passed until Lewandowski wrapped up his hat-trick, briskly followed by Gnabry’s first.

Then French midfielder Tolisso took over, slamming in his first on 38 minutes and his fourth just five minutes later to leave the score 11-0 at half-time.

This thrashing came 12 months after beating the same ninth-division side 20-2 in what is a regular friendly clash. 

Including the above, 13 senior internationals were fielded in what was a final run-out before their German Cup first round clash at FC Energie Cottbus on Monday, August 12.

Following that, the defence of their league title begins against Hertha Berlin on Friday, August 16.
