‘He is an incredible player who excites everyone’: Marco Verratti desperate for Neymar to stay at PSG amid Barcelona and Real Madrid interest

  • Brazilian star Neymar has been linked with a move away from PSG all summer
  • Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two clubs leading chase for the forward
  • But Neymar’s PSG team-mate Marco Verratti has urged him to stay in Paris

Marco Verratti wants ‘incredible’ Neymar to stay at Paris Saint-Germain amid interest in the Brazilian from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Neymar played no part in PSG’s opening league fixture, a 3-0 win over Nimes on Sunday evening, after returning late to pre-season training following an ankle injury and the Copa America.

It meant he wasn’t present at Parc des Princes to witness hostility from the PSG supporters, with some holding up banners saying Neymar should ‘p*** off’.

But his team-mates are desperate for him to stay and help them retain their French league title this season.

‘We are very close to Ney. He is a player who gave a lot to Paris. Last year, he scored in important moments,’ Verratti told L’Equipe after the Nimes match.

‘As soon as he played, we only talked about him because he is an incredible player who excites everyone.

‘I think for him it’s good if things are clear, if he stays or if he leaves. These are things he will manage with the club, but I want him to stay.’

Neymar has scored 51 goals in 58 matches for PSG since joining them from Barcelona in a world record £198million move in 2017.

The French club have said they are willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old this summer, with Real and Barcelona the two interested parties.
