Bayern Munich interim boss Hansi Flick has revealed that star striker Robert Lewandowski will need to undergo groin surgery – but he can still play for the time being. 

Lewandowski has been in sensational form so far this campaign, scoring 20 goals in just 16 matches.

However Flick disclosed on Tuesday that the Poland international will need to have an operation on his groin at some point this season.

‘We were surprised to read about this in the press,’ Flick said.

‘He has problems, but no pain and it’s clear that something has to be done.

‘He will think about when he wants to have it. It would not be good to interrupt the run he is having but it will be his decision and we have to respect that.’

Bayern face Olympiakos in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday night, which will be Flick’s first game in charge.
