Crystal Palace and Lazio ‘have joined Inter Milan in the battle to sign Manchester United captain Ashley Young.’

The 34-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month with Inter offering the 34-year-old an 18-month deal to come to the San Siro.

Otherwise, Young will leave United as a free agent in the summer when his contract expires.

But, according to The Sun, the race to sign the veteran defender has heated up with Inter’s Italian rivals Lazio and Roy Hodgson’s Palace also interested.

Hodgson has been a long-term admirer of Young’s abilities since he worked with him when England manager and believes he can promise regular first-team football at Selhurst Park.

Lazio, meanwhile, registered their interest in United’s club captain last week.

However, United are keen for Young to sign a one-year contract extension.

And manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cast doubt on a move this month because of the club’s current injury problems in defence.

Yet despite this, Young played no part in United’s 4-0 Premier League win over Norwich City on Saturday.
