Inter Milan chief Giuseppe Marotta has admitted an interest in Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen but has insisted no talks have taken place between the two clubs over a possible transfer.

The Spurs playmaker is out of contract in June and therefore can speak to foreign clubs during the January transfer window.

Eriksen has been linked with a switch to Serie A outfit Inter as well as Premier League rivals Manchester United.

‘Eriksen is an excellent player whose contract expires in June and we have had no contact with Tottenham,’ Inter’s Marotta said of the Denmark international to Sky Italy

‘I still believe that there are many teams interested in him and we have not started any kind of negotiations.

‘I simply say that he is an important and interesting player. We are looking for a midfielder and a winger. We are having several contacts with companies and agents to try to improve this group.’

Eriksen expressed last summer that he wanted a fresh challenge and has stalled on agreeing a new deal at Tottenham.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has started Eriksen in the club’s last three matches and has remained coy on his future when quizzed on it.

‘The only thing I will tell you about Christian is that I would like him to sign a new contract. Apart from that I’m not going to tell you anything,’ the Portuguese manager said last month.
