Barcelona confirm Ousmane Dembele is out for SIX MONTHS as French winger is forced to miss Euro 2020 after hamstring surgery
- Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has been ruled out for six months
- The Frenchman had surgery on a troublesome hamstring injury out in Finland
- His diagnosis means he will play no part with the France squad at Euro 2020
Ousmane Dembele is out for six months and will play no part at the European Championships this summer after Barcelona revealed his condition following surgery.
The £135million winger has been out of action since November and suffered another major injury setback earlier this week, prompting the decision to undergo surgery on his troublesome hamstring.
In a statement on Tuesday night, Barcelona confirmed the surgery, which took place in Finland, was successful but he will remain sidelined for six months, ensuring he will not play any part of Didier Deschamps’ France squad this summer.

‘The first team player Ousmane Dembele has successfully undergone surgery in Turku, Finland where he was operated on by Dr. Lasse Lempainen for a ruptured tendon in his proximal hamstring in his right thigh,’ the statement began.
‘The Frenchman will be out for around 6 months. The striker was continuing his recovery from the hamstring injury when he was forced to retire from a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva last week.
‘Subsequent tests confirmed a complete rupture to the tendon in the proximal hamstring of his right leg.’
Lempainen specialises in muscle and tendon injuries and has previously operated on numerous sports stars.
In the 74 matches Dembele has played for Barcelona, he has only completed the full 90 minutes on 10 occasions.
The France international is expected to face a battle to keep his place at the club in the summer with plans to re-sign either Neymar or Adama Traore or to develop recent Benfica recruit Francisco Trincao.

Quique Setien is short on options in attack and may look to make an emergency signing
Confirmation that Dembele will miss the season further exacerbates Barcelona’s need to make an emergency signing to ease their woes in attack with Luis Suarez also set to miss the remainder of the campaign.
That leaves just Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Ansu Fati as options for Quique Setien to call upon.
Although the window slammed shut two weeks ago, Barcelona are able to sign a player if they can prove to the Royal Spanish Football Federation that Dembele will not be able to play again this season.
