Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has become the latest Arsenal star to say his goodbyes to Mesut Ozil on social media ahead of his Fenerbahce unveiling.

Ozil has joined the Turkish giants after agreeing with Arsenal to terminate his £350,000-per-week contract early, and will officially be unveiled as a Fenerbahce player imminently.

Ozil endured a nightmare ending to his Arsenal career, being axed from Mikel Arteta’s Premier League and Europa League squads – having last played competitively for the Gunners in March last year.

And after flying to Turkey following his move, Aubameyang penned on Instagram: ‘Want to say thanks to you my bro and wish you all the best.

‘Don’t Need to Talk about how good you are on and off the pitch and how you take care of people. See you soon on fortnite Bro.’

The 2014 German World Cup winner – who joined Arsenal in 2013 for £42.5million from Real Madrid – immediately replied to Aubameyang’s Instagram post with two love heart emojis.

Aubameyang has linked up with Ozil for the past three seasons at the Emirates following his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

Aubameyang’s social media post came after close friend Shkodran Mustafi said farewell to Ozil on Monday ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Newcastle.

Ozil had come in for criticism during his time in north London for his sometimes lacklustre performances and failure to make a big impact in crunch games.

Off the pitch, he also stirred controversy when he refused to agree to a 12.5 per cent cut to his mammoth wage last year, unlike most of his team-mates, during the UK’s first lockdown at a time when Arsenal were having to release members of staff.

So when Mustafi posted a farewell tweet to Ozil, labelling his former team-mate as ‘unselfish on and off the pitch’ and suggesting the team had let him down, it didn’t sit well with some of the Gunners faithful on Twitter.

Mustafi’s Tweet read: ‘Bro, you have been the most unselfish player on and off the pitch, I have ever shared the dressing room with. You will be always remembered as the #AssistKing. Unfortunately we as a team haven’t been able to assist you when you needed us the most. All the best.’

One fan, @AFCHarv, replied: ‘HES THE MOST SELFISH PLAYER WE’VE HAD’, while @arsenalbarclays responded: ‘Please explain? £350k/week: if this is not assistance I don’t know what it is?’

Another fan, @Marcus49AFC pointed out Ozil’s refusal to take the temporary wage drop, saying ‘Ozil refuses wage cut that 20 of his teammates agree to. Mustafi: “you’ve been the most unselfish player off the pitch”.

@owiiemma added: ‘You are an Arsenal player man. You should be on the side of the club. You should be trying to help us move on from the situation. What is wrong with you?’

Meanwhile, Ozil has reportedly taken an enormous £282,000-a-week pay cut in order to sign for Fenerbahce on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Ozil’s Fenerbahce deal is worth £3.5million a year or £67,300 a week – a substantial decrease on the £350,000 a week he was earning at Arsenal.

However, Ozil could reportedly top up his salary with various performance-related bonuses.

If Fenerbahce, who are currently second in the Turkish Super Lig, go on and win the title, their first since 2014, he is in line to earn £445,000.

If they qualify for next season’s Champions League, which would require a top-two finish, Ozil will reportedly receive £222,000.
