Tottenham could look to terminate Danny Rose’s contract during the January transfer window as the defender has failed to make an appearance for Jose Mourinho’s side this season.

Rose, who is the club’s longest-serving player, was left out of Tottenham’s 25-man Premier League squad and the club’s Europa League squad, leaving him available to only the Under-23s.

Should the club and player reach a mutual agreement to terminate Rose’s contract, Tottenham could be required to pay the defender around £2.4million.

TalkSPORT have revealed how Rose, who is on around £70,000 per week at Tottenham, could follow in the footsteps of Jack Wilshere.

Wilshere left West Ham United after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent in October 2020.

Speaking of Rose’s situation, transfer expert Alex Crook told TalkSPORT: ‘I was told there was a big chance he could follow Jack Wilshere in the sense that Tottenham could cancel his contract in this window.

‘We know he’s not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans.

‘West Brom and Sam Allardyce would be very keen to take him to the Hawthorns – whether he would see that as the right club to revive his career, I don’t know.’

‘I can understand why Big Sam would want him, he’s desperate to bring in some Premier League experience,’ added Crook.

‘But like Wilshere and like Mesut Ozil at Arsenal as well, the time has come for Danny Rose to put his football aspirations ahead of his pay cheque and just get some minutes under his belt.

‘This career doesn’t last forever, and at the moment he’s just rotting at Tottenham.’

Rose fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho and the player was vocal over his lack of game time.

The full back and manager had a heated argument last season in footage shown in Amazon’s fly-on-the-wall All or Nothing documentary.

Rose threatened to stay at home if he didn’t get more minutes on the pitch, saying: ‘Gaffer, I just want to know exactly what the problem is.

When Mourinho asked what he means, the defender replied: ‘You know exactly what I mean, how I’m being treated. I was very excited when you came as manager, but if you don’t want me to play, I’d rather you just tell me now, and I’ll stay at home, and I’ll train at home.’

Mourinho then said: ‘Let me try to be as open as I can with you, because I think you deserve that. When I arrived, you played some matches, you were on the bench some matches, I didn’t select you in other matches.

‘The week before Liverpool you were fantastic in training and that made me decide that in the most difficult game against the most difficult opponent, you play.

‘I think you didn’t play well. The next game against Middlesbrough Tanganga played so well, and is so strong defensively, and doesn’t make any kind of mistakes because he’s so fast and so powerful. I cannot say you’re going to be first choice, you’re going to play every match. It depends on you.’

Left furious by his manager’s response, Rose launched a stinging attack on his Spurs team-mates and claims they have been picked despite playing ‘s***’.

He said: ‘Do you want me to be man of the match and give my best performance when I play one game and then I don’t play again for three or four weeks?’

‘I wasn’t good against Liverpool, it wasn’t my best game, but other people have been s*** in training, s*** in games, but are in the squad every game. It’s not fair.’

Following their argument, Rose went out on loan to Newcastle in January last season but little came of the move.
