AC Milan are eyeing up a summer move for Lens’ central defender Facundo Medina, it is reported.

However, Stefano Pioli’s side will have to compete with Manchester United for the 21-year-old’s signature.

Medina – who joined Lens from Argentine side Talleres last summer for just over £2.7million – has excelled in Ligue 1 this season.

The 21-year-old’s composure and ability on the ball, and his defensive reading of the game are his standout attributes.

Thanks to his fine form, Medina received his first call-up to Argentina’s senior squad in September last year.

Medina then made his debut in Argentina’s World Cup qualifying victory over Bolivia on October 13, coming on as a late replacement for Lautaro Martinez.

As a result, CalcioMercato.com has reported that AC Milan have highlighted Medina and Loic Bade as two of their potential transfer targets for the summer.

However, United are said to be ‘very serious’ about their interest in Medina and could ‘officially’ launch a first offer of £11m.

Should Medina join United, he would follow in the footsteps of Raphael Varane – who learned his trade at Lens before departing for European giants Real Madrid in 2011.
