Jose Mourinho insists he did not watch any of Hugo Lloris’s sensational post-match interview after Tottenham had been dumped out to the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.

The Portuguese’s Spurs reign hit a nadir last Thursday when they surrendered a 2-0 first-leg lead in the Croatian capital to crash out of the competition.

Captain and goalkeeper Lloris fronted up to the media, speaking to BT Sport for more than seven minutes as he opened up on his own feelings on the club’s current plight, voicing concern over a lack of cohesion and competitive edge.

Despite the headlines made by the Frenchman’s words however, Mourinho insisted he had not seen them.

‘I didn’t watch it,’ he told Sky Sports following his side’s 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

‘I closed myself in my shell as I was saying before, I don’t need to read or listen or to watch to have a personal reaction. I am a very mature guy and I have emotional stability.’

Lloris’s words would have been ringing in his team-mates’s ears following the shock defeat last week.

Speaking candidly after the 3-0 loss, he said: ‘I think we are all more than disappointed, it is just a disgrace,’ the goalkeeper said after the game.

‘I just hope everyone in the changing room feels responsible for the situation because it’s a disgrace.

‘The taste of the defeat tonight is more than painful and we are all responsible for that.

‘The accumulation, obviously we are a club full of ambition, I just think the team at the moment is a reflection of what is going on in the club.

‘We have a lack of basics, lack of fundamental, all our performances is a relation of that. Mentally we should be stronger, more competitive. Today, I didn’t feel that on the field.’

Sportsmail then reported in the aftermath of the defeat that if Mourinho fails to lead Tottenham back into the top four, he could lose his job.

Victory against Aston Villa took Tottenham up to sixth in the Premier League table, just three points behind Chelsea who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League place.

After the international break, Tottenham resume their pursuit of the top four with a clash against Newcastle on April 4.
