Reinier slid the striker in down the left and he smashed the ball home through Lukas Hradecky’s legs.

Marco Reus added a second just after the break to put his side in full control.

His free kick bounced through and nobody could manage a touch as Hradecky could only watch on as it nestled into the corner.

Lukasz Piszczek was given a guard of honour with 15 minutes to play after the long-time servant was substituted on his final game for the club.

It was also a farewall for the Bender twins Sven and Lars for Leverkusen but unfortunately for them, the visitors were well beaten.

Haaland notched his 41st of the season, 27th in the Bundesliga late on, when he intercepted Wendell’s pass across the defence.

And there was a rare goal for Lars Bender, who came off the bench in the final moments and scored a penalty to make it 3-1.

The win for Dortmund means they finished third in the table behind RB Leipzig and champions Bayern Munich.
