Chelsea aiming to raise £40m by selling Tammy Abraham this summer with Olivier Giroud also likely to depart as Blues look to gather funds for Erling Haaland or Romelu Lukaku transfer

  • Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could be on his way out of the club this summer
  • The 23-year-old has fallen down pecking order under manager Thomas Tuchel
  • Veteran striker Olivier Giroud is also set to depart to get his wages off the books
  • Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku are targets

Chelsea are ready to listen to offers for Tammy Abraham and believe they could raise £40million from the sale of the England striker.

The club hope to cash in on academy product Abraham as they plan to reshape their attack.

The 23-year-old, who has fallen down the pecking order since Thomas Tuchel took over as manager in January, will have two years left on his deal at the end of the season, making the next window an ideal opportunity to secure a significant fee.

Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 12 goals despite not having started a game since February.

He is the subject of interest from a number of clubs, in England and across Europe.

Olivier Giroud is also likely to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland and Inter Milan’s former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku are two potential targets.

Abraham has returned from an ankle injury sustained at the end of February but he was left out of the FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City and played just three minutes at the weekend in the win over West Ham.

The forward last appeared in Tuchel’s starting XI on February 20 but he was brought off at half-time in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.

It’s no secret that Chelsea are interested in in-demand striker Haaland or even a reunion with Lukaku, who was shipped out on loan to West Brom and Everton during his three years at the club between 2011 and 2014.

Tuchel has trusted the goalscoring responsibilities to £53m summer signing Timo Werner despite his struggles in front of goal. Werner did end his two-month goal drought last weekend but missed a glorious chance in their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand claimed on Tuesday night that Abraham is being treated unfairly by Tuchel in comparison to Werner.

He told BT Sport: ‘It’s crazy. A young player, does he get the time that a Timo Werner, new signing gets when they come in?’

‘And they’re not treated with as much care and understanding of their character and cotton wool that a new signing gets.

‘A new signing gets the investment but you’re investing in a young player. A young player adds so much value to a team but they don’t ever get that time or patience that a new signing gets.

‘Tammy wouldn’t get the time Timo gets. He [Werner] scored at the weekend but he missed a sitter at the weekend. He missed another tonight.

‘If you’re Tammy, you’re sitting there going, “right OK, I’ve got to be playing at least at the weekend to get myself in the shop window for the next game against Madrid.”

Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer with 12 goals this campaign, which have come from 31 appearances across all competitions. By comparison, Werner has scored 11 goals in 45 matches this season.

Ferdinand’s fellow BT Sport pundit Steve McManaman added: ‘Everybody labels Timo Werner as not a natural finisher and yet again tonight it’s been proven right to a certain extent.

‘You still feel he will not score enough goals. That first one today, it was a good save but he should’ve scored, he should’ve set Chelsea on their way to a victory tonight.

‘If you’re Tammy Abraham, or Giroud, you’re thinking, “what do I need to do to play tonight?”’.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid left back Marcelo could miss next week’s Champions League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge after being called up to monitor a polling station in the Madrid elections on Tuesday.
