Peter Crouch insists Tottenham can’t get carried away by 5-1 victory over Mura

Peter Crouch says Tottenham’s poor attacking stats in the Premier League are a ‘huge concern’ and insists they can’t get carried away by 5-1 victory over Mura

Peter Crouch says Tottenham cannot afford to get carried away by their 5-1 victory over Mura and lamented their poor attacking stats in the Premier League this season.

Spurs have managed just four goals from six games in the league with only two teams scoring fewer than Nuno Espirito Santo’s men. They are also bottom of the table for chances created and suffered a huge setback at Arsenal at the weekend.

However, the club put their league woes behind them in the UEFA Conference League, with Harry Kane’s hat-trick after coming off the bench helping his side to a 5-1 win.

But while Spurs found their attacking spark on Thursday – with Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso also on the scoresheet – Crouch says they have to replicate it in tougher matches after a poor run of results.

‘If you take this game out of the equation the results and performances have been poor,’ Crouch told BT Sport.

‘They’ve been bottom of the league for chances created. Things haven’t been good defensively and they haven’t been creating enough going forward.

‘I don’t think since the opening day of the season, it’s not been vintage Tottenham.

‘Are they moving in the right direction? I’m not sure. It was a great result after such a disappointment (against Arsenal).’

Glenn Hoddle also noted a lack of clarity between Nuno and his players on how he wants them to play.

‘The players have to have clarity on what you want from them with the ball. Spurs look to me as if they’re in between.

‘I don’t see clarity at the moment. When Spurs were top of the league after three games, there were stories behind the three games.

‘Wolves and Watford were tight. It was a bit of a false dawn then. There’s a hell of a lot of work needed on the training ground in the next few weeks.

‘They’ve got the players in there. If they can impress like they did tonight they can go on.’

Spurs host Aston Villa on Sunday as they look to get back to winning ways following three straight defeats in the league.
