Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he could leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer as the French superstar edges towards a free transfer to Real Madrid.

The star forward is one of the most coveted players in world football, with an extraordinary 139 goals in 187 games in all competitions for the French giants since signing from Monaco in 2017 for the second-biggest transfer fee of all time.

And after a scintillating performance on Saturday night, scoring four goals for France in an 8-0 demolition against Kazakhstan, Mbappe told TNT Sports there were ‘great challenges ahead’ after five years at the Parc des Princes.

He said: ‘I have had five extraordinary years, I have taken advantage of every moment and I continue to do so.

‘Now there are many things, great challenges and I have already spoken about that.’

When asked whether he would stay at PSG for the foreseeable future, he replied: ‘I am here, I’m still here and will be for this season.

The 52-cap international is out of contract next summer, meaning clubs outside France can begin negotiations to sign him on a free transfer from January.

Spanish side Real Madrid, Mbappe’s preferred destination, are genuine favourites to sign him if he does leave the French capital, having made bids of £137m and £154m during the most recent transfer window.

Karim Benzema, Carlo Ancelotti and Real president Florentino Perez all spoke about the French attacker joining the Spanish side on a free transfer next year, forcing PSG sporting director Leonardo to slam the LaLiga club for a lack of respect.

Despite Real’s confidence in trying to sign him next year, there is a feeling nothing can be ruled out as PSG refuse to give up on him signing a new contract.

Mbappe, meanwhile, has continued to be in and around the goals this season, with seven strikes and 11 assists in 16 games for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who top the Ligue 1 table after 11 wins from their first 13 games.Â
