Arsenal have turned their attentions to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after missing out on Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta has been keen to recruit a new attacker in this window with uncertainty looming over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but his side have so far fallen short.

However, as claimed by Gazzetta dello Sport, they may be willing to splash the cash in their pursuit of Osimhen, although the Serie A outfit want €70million (£58m).

With Vlahovic on the market, Arsenal were said to be willing to pay the hefty €75m (£62m) asking price for the ace, although he has now agreed terms to join Juventus.

That has left them scrambling to find a potential new target, with the prolific Osimhen – who is enjoying a superb season in Italy – thought to be on their radar.

The marksman has scored nine goals in 16 competitive matches for Napoli this campaign, adding to his 10-goal haul from the previous year.

His club splashed out a remarkable €80m (£66m) to sign him from Lille in 2020, and they look set to take a minor hit on that initial fee if they are to offload him.

Osimhen, 23, has been hit by several injury problems recently, however. He sustained facial fractures against Inter Milan, and also contracted Covid twice.

The latest positive test result forced him to miss the African Cup of Nations.

Due to his young age and potential, it is little surprise that club president Aurelio De Laurentiis would only be willing to weigh up a sale for offers over the £58m mark.

The same source have also linked mega-rich Newcastle to the striker, as they eye up a sensational swoop in their battle to avoid Premier League relegation.
