Liverpool target Luis Diaz underwent his medicals in Argentina on Saturday evening as he closed on a £37million transfer from Porto.

The 25-year-old Colombia international, known as ‘noodle’ because of his wiry frame, is expected to sign a five year contract once he gets the all clear.

Liverpool made their move on Thursday after Tottenham’s bid for the winger established that Porto would sell below Diaz’s £66m buy out clause.

Liverpool are willing to offload Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Nat Phillips to help offset their spend on Diaz.

Leeds have asked about taking Minamino on loan while Newcastle have had a request to take Phillips on oan rejected. Liverpool want £15m for the defender. Neco Williams could also depart with Brentford among his admirers.

The game was arranged by Liverpool to aid his recovery from an ankle injury and to put him in contention for next week’s FA Cup tie with Cardiff City. 

The 18-year-old spent 45 minutes on the right of midfield then 15 minutes of the second half on the right side of a front three, scoring one and providing an assist.

Rhys Williams who is attracting loan interest from Championship clubs also figured in the game.
