In Group E of the Football World Cup, which also leads the Netherlands, Canada has booked a small victory over Cameroon. In Montpellier, after a moderate game, it became 1-0.
In a messy opening phase, the Canadians, the number five in the world, were most looking for the opening goal. Star player Christine Sinclair was threatening a few times.
As the first half progressed, Cameroon got more out of its own half and it was more likely to be found for Stephanie Labbe's goal. However, this did not lead to real major opportunities.
The danger came from the Canadian side. Just before half-time Nichelle Prince shot the post through a leg of a defender and not much later defender Kadeisha Buchanan headed in a corner for the opening goal.
