A police officer was called and when Carmela went to check what was happening, she then suffered a fatal heart attack.
‘I tried to revive the poor lady practicing cardiac massage, but there was nothing to do’, said Francesco Di Palma, a doctor who tried to provide first aid while they waited for an ambulance.
The 19-year-old player was watched by his father in the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday as he came on for the last five minutes of the match.
Dad Gianfelice called his home to speak to his mother Carmela as part of a post-match tradition but there was no answer when he rang.
A few minutes later he received a phone call telling him that she had died.
A complaint was made over the noise and she suffered a fatal heart attack in process
Gaetano took to his Instagram to pay tribute to her on Tuesday: ‘I remember when you had to give me syringes to treat me, I was afraid, but with your sweetness with your steady hand you reassured me, you made me feel comfortable.
‘I remember that when I was a little late I was waiting for you outside on the balcony and you said to me, ‘You are the “Last to return”. I said no, but you didn’t go to sleep, you waited for my brothers and your son to make sure that everyone came back that everyone was asleep.
‘You saw me making the debut but I couldn’t see you for the last time, I thank you for everything about all the beautiful things done together, for the Christmas dinners and all of the birthdays.
‘Mamma mia, grandmother, what pizza you made in the oven, how to bake macaroni, sprinkle pasta with pesto and tomato, buy pesto with mushrooms, my goodness. You will stay with me, you will remain in my heart.

‘Now I can’t knock you in the evening when I’m a little late, I’ll have to get the keys because I had you waiting for me.
‘I remember that every Monday I stayed with you because Mum and Dad went out, I was afraid of being alone down in the dark and you made me come up making me stand up to you, in the comfortable armchair and you put yourself on the uncomfortable chair but you didn’t care.
‘You wanted me to be well, you wanted me to be comfortable to rest. What do the others know? That NONNA IS SPECIAL.
‘Thanks for all these years, I’m sorry I didn’t see you for the last time and couldn’t hug you hard.
‘I love you grandma, rest in peace, you will always be with me in my heart.’
Gaetano got his opportunity after scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists for the reserves this campaign.
