In the first half, Sweden, the number 8 in the world, was clearly better than Chile, the number 39 in the FIFA ranking. The Swedish women determined the game, were given opportunities, but were unable to cash it in.
This was mainly due to the Chilean keeper Christiane Endler, who made some wonderful saves. The greatest chance for Sweden – Nilla Fischer was able to come in from close range – was made harmless by Endler.
Thunder and lightning
The second half gave the same image on the field, but above the field the situation changed: dark clouds gathered and eventually it started to rain and thunder. The thunder and lightning was so intense that the Mexican referee Lucila Venegas sent the players to the changing rooms in the 71st minute.
