Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula One future may be in doubt but the Australian star may have a side hustle lined up involving American TV firm Hulu.
Ricciardo has had a season to forget at McLaren, recording just three top 10 finishes from 11 races thus far. As a result, reports have suggested that the 33-year-old’s seat next season is in jeopardy, with a number of young guns being assessed.
The Australian blasted those reports last week, insisting ‘I still want this more than ever’, but a career in television production may be on the cards should his foray with Hulu go swimmingly.

The Disney-backed streaming giant are planning to produce a comedy series consisting of half-hour long episodes, reports suggest. The project is at a preliminary stage and a search for a writer has commenced.
Ricciardo is understood to take up the role of executive producer, meaning while he will not be directly involved in the finer details of the show such as scriptwriting and directing, he will contribute ideas pertaining to the general plot of the series.
Should all go to plan, the series may be on TV screens by the end of 2023 or early 2024.

McLaren boss Zak Brown described Ricciardo’s showings as disappointing earlier this season, but two weeks ago insisted that the team were 100 per cent behind him, seeking to dispel any uncertainty about his seat for next season.
However McLaren gave young rising star Colton Herta a surprise F1 test run last Monday, casting more doubt over Ricciardo’s position.
IndyCar racer Herta began the first of two days of on-track running at Portimao, driving a 2021-spec car.

The 22-year-old is the youngest driver to win a race in IndyCar, and is highly regarded by those across the F1 paddock.
In a statement confirming Herta’s time with the team, McLaren said the test ‘provides an opportunity for the team to evaluate young talent’.
‘Colton is a proven talent in IndyCar and we will be interested to see how he adapts to a Formula 1 car,’ McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl said.
‘We believe this testing programme will provide him with valuable experience while demonstrating the benefit of expanding previous car testing to showcase promising drivers for the future.’
