Southampton have made a fresh enquiry about taking Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore on loan.

The 21-year-old impressed for City Football Group side Troyes on loan last season and now the Saints are determined to capture his signature.

The Burkina Faso international made 31 appearances as the French side just evaded the Ligue 1 drop zone last campaign and has since returned to the Etihad to team up with his parent club.

Kabore originally joined Pep Guardiola’s side for £4million in 2020, but has yet to play a single minute in a City shirt, and instead has spent the last two seasons out on loan.

Southampton will be hoping City will be keen to sent him out to help him develop his game once again this campaign.

Although, the Saints know they will face competition to seal a deal, with newly-promoted Nottingham Forest having already seen a £17million bid rejected for the youngster.

The Saints interest comes after they also announced the appointment of Joe Shields as the club’s new head of senior recruitment.

Shields, 35, spent the past nine years at Man City, where he was most recently head of academy recruitment and talent management.

Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side completed the signing of 18-year-old Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia from Manchester City earlier this week, after also swooping for City goalkeeper Gavin Bazanu.

The Saints have also signed goalkeeper Mateusz Lis and defender Armel Bella-Kotchap so far this summer, as they look to bolster their options ahead of the new Premier League season.
