Juventus ‘deny rumours they could make a swoop’ for Antonio Conte, with vice-president Pavel Nedved claiming the club ‘FULLY trusts’ Max Allegri… despite crashing out of the Champions League and their poor Serie A form

  • Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved has ruled out a move for Antonio Conte
  • The executive claimed the Italian club had ‘full trust’ in current boss Max Allegri
  • Juventus currently sit seventh in the league, 10 points off Napoli at the top
  • The Tottenham manager’s contract will expire this season having joined in 2021
  • Conte was rumoured to be a target of Juventus but it seems that is no longer true

Juventus have ruled out any suggestion that they could look to acquire Antonio Conte as their new manager, with vice-president Pavel Nedved claiming they are ‘backing’ current boss Massimiliano Allegri.

Speculation over the Tottenham manager’s future has been bubbling away for some time, with the 53-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of this season.

Reports in Italy have suggested that the Italian could make a move back to Juventus, having spent three seasons at the helm of the Serie A giants in 2011, but it appears the club’s vice-president is staying loyal to their current manager, Allegri.

Nedved said to DAZN: ‘Our position is always the same, what we always said: the club, players and everyone have full faith in coach Allegri.’

‘It’s normal when not getting the wins Juve expect that names will emerge in the media, there will probably be more, but we remain firm on our position.

‘We’ll give him the opportunity to do his work and do it well.’

It’s been a tough season already for Juventus, who sit seventh in the league, trailing run-away leaders Napoli by 10 points.

Poor domestic form has been compounded further by difficulties in the Champions League, with the club crashing out at the group stages for the first time since 2013/14 last week, after winning just one in five group matches.

During his first spell at the club, Allegri had guided Juventus to five consecutive league wins, but questions have started to arise over his tenure at the club, with Juve having won just six of their 12 league games this season.

Conte similarly had an impressive first spell at the club between 2011 and 2014, winning three league titles and two Italian Super Cups with the Old Lady, but notoriously fell out with Andrea Agnelli after before he left to take over the Italian national side.

And while a reunion with his old club has been touted, Conte recently spoke out to dispel those rumours himself, shutting down ‘disrespectful’ suggestions that he could rejoin his old club.

‘This is disrespectful for the coach that works in Juventus,’ Conte said, when asked on reports linking him to Juventus. ‘Also disrespectful for me working for Tottenham. I don’t want to hear people speaking about this.’

Conte signed a two-year deal at White Hart Lane back in 2021 after taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs finished third under Conte last season and the Italian looks to have had a positive impact on the club again this season, guiding them to eight wins in 13 games, pushing them up to fourth in the Premier League.

‘We have just started the season,’ he said. ‘I am happy and enjoying my time with Tottenham.

‘And then we have the whole season to find the best solution for the club, for me.

‘I’m enjoying the time at Tottenham working with these players. I have a great relationship with the chairman. We signed a contract because we both agreed to sign this contract and I don’t see problems for the future. Now, it’s important to be focused.’
