PSG’s Qatari President Nasser Al-Khelaifi laughs off claims the club could be sold after World Cup 

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has laughed off suggestions that he could look to sell the club following the World Cup in his home country of Qatar. 

Al-Khelaifi has been the face of the Qatar Sports Investment that has now owned the French side for over a decade. In that time they have cemented their place as Ligue 1’s dominant force and bought some of the best players in the world to the capital city.

However, there had been some claims earlier this year that following the World Cup, where the entire football world had been focussed on Qatar, QSI would possibly look to sell the club. 

Speaking in an interview with Marca, Al-Khelaifi has category denied these stories, and classed them as a ‘joke’. Proclaiming that more exciting days are yet to come for PSG. 

The 49-year-old said: ‘It makes me laugh, I don’t know if I should answer this question honestly, because it seems like a joke to me, right? 

This is just the beginning for QSI and PSG and everything we are doing. We are about to enter a second phase in which we will see incredible growth. 

Our most exciting days are yet to come for PSG and our entire group.’

Al-Khelaifi has been in his homeland of Qatar taking all of what the World Cup has to offer 

Despite shooting down the claims that the club will sold, Al-Khelaifi did admit that he is open to more investment in the club. With interest from a number of investors wanting minority stakes in the French champions. 

‘There is a significant interest from investors in the club and that is fantastic’ Al-Khelaifi added. 

‘They want minority stakes and we’re talking to them very openly. In these conversations, the club’s valuation exceeds 4,000 million euros, it is not an objective, it is the market valuation. It’s fantastic. 

We have built a brand and a business from scratch, and now we are seeing the results of our work. Remember that this is only the beginning: our project is ambitious and long-term.’ 

The PSG head honcho also says that Kylian Mbappe is happy to stay in the French capital 

Al-Khelaifi has been in Qatar soaking all the atmosphere at a World Cup in his home country, and would have witnessed the performances of a number of his PSG stars – including Kylian Mbappe’s impressive start to the tournament. 

There has been much speculation about the French superstar and his future at the club, but the PSG President says everyone at PSG is happy with the current situation. 

Adding:’ Every month, every week and even every day I have to answer this. He has just renewed his contract and we are all happy. The team hasn’t lost any game all season, we’ve already reached 100 games in a row selling out tickets.’
