Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Eintracht Frankfurt a few months ago, the German side’s CEO claims

Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Eintracht Frankfurt amid his desperate attempt to leave Manchester United earlier this season, according to the German club’s CEO.

The veteran forward, 37, was released from his United contract on November 22 in a bitter, acrimonious exit from Old Trafford following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan. 

And now Frankfurt executive board member Axel Hellmann has claimed United offered Ronaldo to several teams across Europe as they looked to get rid of him.

He told DAZN: ‘He was even offered to us,’ while Philip Holzer, chairman of the club’s supervisory board, added: ‘I have the feeling he was offered to every Champions League club.’

Frankfurt qualified for the top European competition this season after winning last campaign’s Europa League title. 

Ronaldo made his desire to leave United this summer clear after their failure to qualify for the Champions League, but there were seemingly no takers among sides playing in that competition and he remained in Manchester.

However, he lost his place in the starting line-up after a 4-0 embarrassment against Brentford, before making a number of bombshell allegations with Morgan on TV in which he criticised team-mates and manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo was also dropped at the recent Qatar World Cup by manager Fernando Santos after his reaction to being substituted off and was left in tears as Portugal were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Morocco.
