Aussie basketball legend Andrew Gaze and current NBL players wish contestant on The Bachelors well with VERY cheeky messages

  • Felix Von Hofe will be one of three contestants on new season of The Bachelors
  • He currently plays basketball for the Melbourne Tigers in the second tier NBL1
  • Gaze is known as the GOAT of Aussie hoops and won two titles with the Tigers
  • He chimed in with some advice for Van Hofe ahead of his debut on the show

Aussie basketball legend Andrew Gaze is known just as much for his larrikin nature as his hoops ability – and the NBL GOAT could not resist throwing a cheeky barb the way of one of the contestants on The Bachelors.

For the first time in Australian history, The Bachelor has expanded from one contestant looking for love to three, including one-time NBL player Felix Van Hofe.

While Van Hofe has spent most of his playing career in the second-tier NBL1 competition with the Melbourne Tigers side Gaze famously played for, he did spend one season with Melbourne United in the top tier in 2017/18.

The 27-year-old averaged 0.5 points, 1 rebounds, and 0.2 assists in 4 games in the NBL and is also a sports commentator and marketing manager.

The Bachelors is the 10th season of the popular reality show and the first to include three male contestants including Van Hofe, Mood Munroe drummer Jed McIntosh and restaurant manager Thomas Malucelli.

Gaze, who won two NBL championships with the Tigers in a glittering career, could not resist having a dig at Van Hofe ahead of the debut of The Bachelors.

‘Good luck to Tigers star and my good friend Felix Von Hofe on his debut on The Bachelor tonight,’ Gaze wrote on Instagram

‘May he find true love that calms his nocturnal activities and gets him fired up for the 2023 NBL1 South season!’

Van Hofe’s appearance on the reality show also attracted some cheeky comments from current NBL players.

‘Finally his fame is going to match his ego, which is good,’ South East Melbourne Phoenix forward Dane Pineau told NBL.com.au

‘If I can’t be there to watch it, I will be recording it. I’m very excited.’

Phoenix teammate Kyle Adnam added: ‘Whatever you’ve done for the last 27 years, change it,’

Illawarra Hawks veteran Tim Coenraad’s advice was: ‘Don’t make a fool out of yourself.’ while Perth Wildcats livewire Corey Webster simply said: ‘Try to be funny.’
