Barcelona president Joan Laporta ‘asks for Ronaldinho’s son to be given more time to impress on trial’ after the 17-year-old ‘failed to convince’ club staff in training

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reportedly requested Ronaldinho’s son Joao de Assis Moreira be given more time to earn a contract, after initially failing to impress academy coaching staff.
Moreira, 17, has been training with Barcelona’s youth players in order to earn a contract at his father’s former club.
According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Moreira has not impressed Barcelona’s coaching staff enough to earn a deal with the Catalan giants.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta has reportedly asked for Moreira to be given more time
Laporta has reportedly asked the coaching staff to give the teenage center forward more time to earn a contract.
The Barca chief had previously asked for his progress to be followed closely.
Moreira’s uncle Roberto de Assis, who is also his agent, had been in direct contact with Laporta to discuss a deal for the teenager to move to the Nou Camp, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Moreira had initially started out in Cruzeiro’s youth team back in his homeland, before seeking to develop his fledgling career in Europe.

Laporta boasts a close relationship with Moreira’s father Ronaldinho, who had been one of the central players at Barcelona during his first spell as the club’s President between 2003 and 2010.
Ronaldinho enjoyed a glittering five-year spell at Barcelona between 2003 and 2008.
Having won the World Cup in 2002, he joined the club from PSG the following year, and went on to win the Ballon d’Or in 2005.
He was also named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

The teenager is looking to earn himself a contract with the Catalan giants
Ronaldinho won LaLiga twice and the Champions League in 2006, as Barcelona beat Arsenal 2-1 in the final in Paris.
He is widely considered to be one of Barcelona’s greatest ever players.
Should Moreira eventually secure a Barcelona contract, he would likely continue his progression in the club’s famed La Masia academy.
The academy has has produced some outstanding players over the years including Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
