  • Chelsea are keen on signing Borussia Dortmund teenager Youssoufa Moukoko
  • The club initially looked to be lining up a summer mover for the striker
  • Now they could look to try and sign him in January after Armando Broja’s injury

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund’s teenage striker Youssoufa Moukoko in January.

Moukoko has shone in the Bundesliga this term, scoring six goals in 14 appearances, and he became the youngest player to represent Germany at a World Cup when he came off the bench against Japan just three days after his 18th birthday last month.

His performances in his homeland have caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, who were expected to try to sign the youngster next summer when his contract at Dortmund expires.

However, the west London club could now move for Moukoko sooner and attempt to lure him away from Germany next month, according to The Athletic.

Indeed, Chelsea’s plans to bring in a new striker may have been significantly affected by the injury suffered by Armando Broja in their mid-season friendly with Aston Villa on Sunday.

Broja was stretchered off after appearing to sustain a serious knee injury following a challenge with Villa defender Ezri Konsa.

Chelsea are still waiting to find out the extent of the setback, but there are fears that he may have torn his ACL which would rule him out for the rest of the season.

If this is the case it may force Chelsea into the transfer market next month, which could lead to them setting their sights on Moukoko.

Graham Potter does currently have a couple of other options to fill the lone striker role at Chelsea other than Broja, with the Blues boss able to call on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz.

The pair have only scored four league goals between them this season, though, and Chelsea are the lowest scorers in the top half of the Premier League, highlighting their lack of firepower.

Should Broja be out for a lengthy period, the club may consider it a priority to bring in a new attacker to boost their chances of a top-four finish this term.
