Wolves face a late threat from Lyon in their bid to sign Brazilian youngster Joao Gomes from Flamengo for £15million.

The Premier League outfit believed that a deal was close to completion, after Sportsmail revealed the club had struck a £15million transfer for the midfielder.

French side Lyon, however, are keen to hijack his potential move to the Molineux by offering £2.5million more than Wolves – despite Gomes being in London with his agent.

Gomes has been a regular for the Brazilian outfit since making his debut in October 2020, and has already won several honours at club level, including the Copa Libertadores.

He played 63 games for Flamengo, in all competitions, last season and scored two goals in that period. He managed to record the same amount of assists.

Wolves have, however, announced the signing of Pablo Sarabia from Paris St Germain for £4.4million.

The 30-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Molineux, ahead of Tuesday’s FA Cup third-round reply with Liverpool.

Sarabia, 30, was captain for Spain Under-19s when Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui was in charge.

Wolves have already signed midfielder Mario Lemina from Nice and forward Matheus Cunha on loan from Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window.
