Harry Maguire ‘approached by TWO Saudi Pro League clubs’ – after Man United rejected bids from both Premier League and Italian teams this summer

Former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been approached by two clubs from the Saudi Pro League about a move, according to a report.

Maguire, 32, has had a mixed career at Old Trafford since joining for £80million in 2019 – a then-world record fee for a defender.

He was named captain under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before being stripped of the honour by Erik ten Hag, and has never really settled in the XI despite the high hopes for his career at the club when he joined.

He has, though, regularly had interest in his services, and came close to signing for West Ham last summer before opting to stay and fight for his place in red.

In the summer transfer window that has just closed, meanwhile, United rejected bids from both the Premier League and Serie A to sign the central defender, and he appeared to be again locked in for another season at United.

That could still change, though. According to The Sun, Maguire has received offers from the Saudi Pro League to join one of their clubs, which could see him join up with the likes of former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in the country, with their transfer window closing on September 23.

It is also reported that Maguire would finally be open to leaving United – but not this summer, rather next.

The England defender, who has missed out on a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad, has one year left to run on his current contract and has said he intends to see it out at United.

He has also said he would be open to staying if United themselves want that. Maguire played 27 times for the club last season, scoring once, but is far from first choice.

The likes of Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt, Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui and Any Heaven can all also play in Ruben Amorim’s preferred back three system, as well as Lisandro Martinez, who is a long-term injury absentee.

Still, Maguire has played a part in two of United’s three Premier League games so far this term, despite being yet to start.

He was an unused substitute against Burnley last time out, after playing 10 and three minutes against Arsenal and Fulham respectively.

Maguire, who has played for United 258 times, also played 90 minutes in the shock penalty shootout defeat by League Two Grimsby Town last week.
